An investigation is underway into a fatal fire Thursday in Union Township that drew a response from several area fire departments, according to a release from the Porter County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff’s deputies and the Porter County Coroner’s Office assisted the Union Township Volunteer Fire Department with the initial response to the fire, at 11 a.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Sandalwood Court, said Sgt. Ben McFalls, public information officer for the sheriff’s department.One person was discovered deceased in the home, McFalls said, adding the cause of fire and the cause of death for the deceased are under investigation.

“Please keep the family and friends of the subject that passed away in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” McFalls said in the release. “We have no further comment on this ongoing investigation.”
