A house burns in Jamaica Beach on Friday, March 24, 2023. One person was killed in the fire, officials saidin Jamaica Beach.
The Jamaica Beach Fire Department at 6:26 a.m. was called to a home at 16500 Bayfront Drive. When fire crews arrived, the home was already fully engulfed, Jamaica Beach Fire Department Chief Kyle Baden said. The Jamaica Beach and Galveston fire departments worked for about an hour to knock down the fire, Baden said. When crews entered the remains of the building they found one person dead.
Baden said officials had a"reasonable idea" about who the person was, but did not identify the fire victim. Two neighboring properties sustained minor damage from the fire, but no other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was unknown, Baden said.
