Michael Veneziale, president of Soccer Northwestern Ontario, said he's optimistic that council will support issuing a design-build request for proposal for the city's proposed indoor turf facility. "It was only a few weeks ago that we were talking about our asset management plan and our inability to mend up the infrastructure gap. And here we are talking about potentially spending $40 million on a turf facility."Brian Hamilton, McKellar Ward councillor for the City of Thunder Bay, said residents "have every right to have reservations about spending upwards of $40 million.
"I am one of those people," he said. "However, you really do have to balance that with the needs of the future."
