Amid reports that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be filling the final tranche of Senate vacancies before he leaves the PMO, there are two Red Chamber retirements happening this weekend. The first is ISG Senator Nancy Hartling who is turning 75 years old—the Red Chamber's mandatory retirement age—on Feb. 1. Born in Nova Scotia, Hartling has lived her life in New Brunswick.

As reported last July, “Michaud’s riding split up and divided between two existing ridings: Gaspésie–Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, currently represented by Fisheries Minister Diane Lebouthillier, and much of Rimouski-Neigette–Témiscouata–Les Basques, which is represented by Bloc MP Maxime Blanchette-Joncas.” In April 2024, Michaud said she would run in the new riding of Gaspésie–Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine–Listuguj, but clearly her new circumstances have caused a re-think.
