On the road again: Alejandro Escovedo returns to High Performance Rodeo for career-encompassing concert yyc
After nearly half a century on the road and more than a dozen acclaimed albums to his name, Escovedo suddenly found himself with an unusual amount of downtime on his hands. When the pandemic began in 2020, the singer-songwriter and his wife, Nancy, retreated to their rural property outside of Austin, Texas. He started ruminating about his career and writing his memoirs. He played a few online benefits, but otherwise barely touched his guitar.
Slowly but surely, Escovedo began to emerge in 2022. In June, he went to New York City to help celebrate Ian Hunter’s 83rd birthday with three shows. Escovedo performed with The Rant Band, Hunter’s longtime backing musicians and also the core lineup for the Mott the Hoople reunion tours in recent years. Mott the Hoople is the iconic, glam-rock act Hunter fronted in the 1970s.
