The deferral on logging old growth trees in the Fairy Creek region has been extended to the end of September 2026. The initial two-year deferral, announced in June 2021, applied to the Fairy Creek watershed and the Central Walbran Valley. The province says the extension allows continued work with the Pacheedaht First Nation on long-term watershed management. The deferral came after eight months of protests and over 1,100 arrests, surpassing the number of arrests from the 1993 'War in the Woods' protests.

The deferral for logging the old growth trees in the Fairy Creek region has once again been extended, this time to the end of September 2026.

“True, lasting and meaningful reconciliation begins with partnering and working with First Nations. Together, we can build a strong, robust and sustainable forest sector for the next 100 years.”
