“Obviously, we’ve lost a lot of legends, but there’s nobody in this category, and really any category, that would be here without Alabama, and we just lost Jeff Cook,” Old Dominion lead singer Matthew Ramsey said during the CMA Awards.

The Fort Payne native had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2012, and stopped touring with his bandmates in 2018.On Nov. 9, as the members of Old Dominion accepted their trophy at the CMA ceremony in Nashville, lead singer Matthew Ramsey immediately made mention of Cook, putting his hand over his heart.
Ramsey also pointed to the founders of Alabama -- Cook, singer Randy Owen and bassist Teddy Gentry -- as role models in country music.
