RCMP received a complaint on April 27 of a Foothills County woman who had been defrauded of a large amount of money in a grandparent scam.

Following an investigation, Okotoks municipal and Okotoks GIS officers identified an Ottawa man as a suspect. They obtained a warrant to search his temporary residence in Calgary and recovered the money.Nigel Nyembwe, 22, has been charged with fraud over $5,000 and attempted fraud over $5,000. More charges are pending. He was remanded into custody and will appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Cochrane on May 2.
