have reached out to Mark Hunter on multiple occasions as their search for a new general manager continues.
“Edmonton continues its process to fill its GM position and word is they have now interviewed Mark Hunter, the GM of the London Knights, for the second time,” Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said during the ‘Headlines’ segment ofJust because Hunter has interviewed with the Oilers twice doesn’t mean the team has come to a decision, however, with many prime candidates still in Sweden for the under-18 world championships, Friedman adds.
“I don’t necessarily think this is coming to a close,” said Friedman. “There are still a number of people in the hockey world who are overseas at the under-18s but, obviously, Hunter is going to be a big part of this process.” Hunter’s last NHL job was as co-interim GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs alongside Kyle Dubas. When Dubas was named as the Leafs’ full-time GM in May last year Hunter shortly announced his departure from the organization.
The Oilers have been without a general manager since January when the organization fired Peter Chiarelli.
