Ohio State is in search of its ninth national title, and its first since the College Football Playoff debuted in 2014 with a four-team playoff. Notre Dame is going for its 12th championship, but its first since 1988. The losses this season helped set the tone for both teams as they embarked on the sort of comeback that might not have been possible in years past.
