Ryan Day's contract has been finalized, with his buyout to leave for another team starting at $5 million.
Day is 35-4 as Ohio State’s coach, including a 21-10 victory over No. 5 Notre Dame in Saturday’s season-opener. Tucker’s Michigan State record is 14-7. Franklin is 63-34 at Penn State.Day, 43, did not sign the OSU contract offer in May because details had not been worked out. He told The Dispatch at Big Ten media days in July that the contract was close to being completed. Under his old contract, he would have made $7.6 million in 2022. Day signed the contract last Wednesday.
Franklin would owe Penn State $8 million if he leaves before Dec. 31, 2022, $6 million in 2023, $2 million in 2024 and 2025 and $1 million from 2026-30. Kirby Smart, coach of defending national champion Georgia, recently signed a 10-year, $112.5 million contract. His buyout to leave is $5 million until Dec. 31, 2024, and $4 million for the next three years. It decreases by $1 million per year after that.
