COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus man pleaded guilty Wednesday to federal charges for threatening to bomb a health clinic and to kill a patient who he believed was seeking an abortion. Carlos Manuel Rodriguez Brime, 25, admitted to violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, which makes it a federal crime to threaten the use of force to intimidate anyone receiving or providing reproductive health services, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio. Brime also pleaded guilty to transmitting a threat in interstate commerce.

Prosecutors say Brime made two separate telephone calls on April 11, 2021, to a reproductive healthcare clinic. In the first call, he made a death threat toward a prospective patient. In the second call, he made a bomb threat directly to the clinic, telling the clinic staff “my organization will be bringing a bomb to your facility. I suggest you close your doors.”

Threatening freedom of access to clinic entrances is a federal crime punishable by up to one year in prison and transmitting threats in interstate commerce carries a potential maximum sentence of five years in prison. A sentencing date has not been set.Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
