The fire risk index is starting to rise in Labrador, prompting government officials to recall a water bomber from the firefighting effort in Nova Scotia.
The province had sent four waterbombers to Nova Scotia, but Provincial Fire Duty Officer Jeff Motty says one of the planes was recalled and is situated in Happy Valley-Goose Bay due to warmer and dryer conditions in Labrador. He says they are continually monitoring risk and position resources as necessary. He says the province will help out other provinces when they can, and when they have to bring the water bombers back home, they do so.
Provincial officials are monitoring a fire currently burning more than 80 hectares in a remote region in Labrador. That fire is not posing an immediate threat to property, but they’re on the ready should that situation change.
