An officer walked the woman away from where paramedics were working, but the woman attacked him, hitting him in the face and knocking his glasses off.

A Victoria police officer was injured Sunday night after a woman tried to prevent paramedics from providing life-saving medical care to someone having an opioid overdose.

Police had been called to the 900-block of Pandora Avenue about 7:50 p.m. to assist paramedics when they encountered the woman. She pushed a paramedic aside and stood over the patient, at which point the officer took her by the arm and moved her away. The woman tried to approach the paramedics again, but the officer walked her to the corner of Pandora and Quadra Street.

The woman then attacked the officer, hitting him in the face and knocking his glasses off. He was able to subdue and hold her until other officers arrived to take her into custody.The woman, who was not injured, was taken to police cells and later released with a court date.Police said the investigation is ongoing.
