Odermatt secured his 44th career win, leading a Swiss podium sweep with Haaser, Rogentin, and von Allmen.

Swiss ski star Marco Odermatt finally claimed victory at Kitzbuehel, adding another prestigious World Cup win to his already impressive resume. The super-G race on Friday at the iconic Austrian resort was marked by a series of crashes, including a particularly alarming one involving Alexis Pinturault, who was airlifted off the course with a suspected right knee injury.

Odermatt, who has dominated World Cup racing for the past three seasons, crossed the finish line in 44th career win, outpacing the field by a slim margin. Raphael Haaser, in his first race back after a six-week injury layoff, secured second place, trailing Odermatt by a mere 0.11 seconds. The podium was rounded out by Swiss teammates Stefan Rogentin and Franjo von Allmen, finishing third and fourth respectively. Cameron Alexander of Canada placed fifth, followed by James Crawford in eighth. Odermatt, known for his tactical approach, attributed his victory to a combination of speed and smart line choices. He noted that while other racers may have excelled in specific sections, his consistency throughout the course proved crucial. The race was repeatedly interrupted due to the numerous crashes. Pinturault's incident, in which he collided with a gate after catching a bump, was particularly concerning. The three-time Olympic medalist, who returned to competition after an 11-month absence due to a left knee injury, was visibly shaken and appeared to be in considerable pain. This setback adds another layer of complexity to his already challenging comeback journey. Odermatt, visibly affected by Pinturault's crash, expressed his disappointment and acknowledged the risks inherent in the sport. He stated that he consciously opted for a smoother race line in the treacherous section where many crashes occurred. The victory further solidified Odermatt's dominance in both the overall and discipline standings. He is the only skier to achieve two wins in the super-G discipline this season, breaking the trend of four different winners in the first four races. Notably, Vincent Kriechmayr and Fredrik Moeller, who occupied second and third positions in the super-G standings prior to the race, chose not to compete, having both suffered crashes in a downhill race at Wengen the previous week. The super-G served as the curtain-raiser for the 85th edition of the renowned Hahnenkamm races, which will continue with a downhill race on Saturday followed by a slalom on Sunday.
