Labour Minister Seamus O’Regan says he’s asked the federal labour board to determine whether an agreement could still be negotiated to end the B.C. ports strike or if outside intervention is necessary. O’Regan on Saturday said he’s using the power found in the Canada Labour Code to order the Canada Industrial Relations Board to weigh in on the dispute.
Despite the rejection, the union didn’t issue a new strike notice on Friday. Under Canadian labour law, ILWU Canada must give 72-hours notice of its intent to start striking.
