NYPD actually bought AR-15s that shoot GPS trackers like it's 2 Fast 2 Furious.

The launcher, called the Guardian HX, uses an AR-15 lower receiver, but uses its own trigger assembly, magazine, upper body, and barrel. The magazine is actually a battery, and the trigger is a switch that tells the device to release pressurized gas to launch the tracker, which sits at the nose of the barrel.
