Hannah Miller scored twice and Sarah Nurse netted the game-winning goal on the power play as the Toronto Sceptres defeated the New York Sirens 4-2 at Scotiabank Arena.

Sarah Nurse scored a late power-play goal and Hannah Miller notched a pair of tallies as the Toronto Sceptres defeated the New York Sirens 4-2 on Saturday. Nurse's shot sailed over the glove of New York goalie Corinne Schroeder with 5:54 left in the third period, ending a mini two-game losing streak for Toronto (4-0-2-6), who sit last in the six-team Professional Women's Hockey League.

The game, dubbed the Battle on Bay Street, drew a crowd of 19,102 to Scotiabank Arena, slightly smaller than the 19,285 who watched Toronto edge Montreal 2-1 on February 16th. Toronto defender Kali Flanagan added an empty-net goal, while Ella Shelton and Abby Roque replied for New York (3-3-1-4). Toronto outshot New York 35-19 as Schroeder stopped 31 shots while Raygan Kirk made 17 saves for the Sceptres. Miller opened the scoring with 86 seconds left in the first period, redirecting a high point shot from Flanagan. After defender Shelton tied the game midway through the second period, Miller tallied again late in the frame. But Roque tied the game once more, converting a pass from her Sirens linemate Jessie Eldridge on a two-on-one break just 61 seconds into the third period. Nurse's power-play goal proved to be the game-winner, marking a key moment in a tight contest. Schroeder made a spectacular glove-hand save on Nurse's one-timer from point blank range with 6:40 remaining to keep the game level. Sceptres defender Megan Carter made her PWHL debut after missing the team's first 11 games due to a lower-body injury. She was in the penalty box for cross-checking when New York tied the game 1-1 in the second period. Sirens forward Sarah Fillier was playing in her first PWHL game in Toronto. The Canadian national team forward from nearby Georgetown, Ont., leads the league with 12 points. Miller's team-leading fifth and sixth goals propelled her into the top spot in the PWHL goal-scoring race. The Sceptres will visit the Minnesota Frost on Tuesday. New York continues its road trip against the Ottawa Charge on Monday
