Results of the McCreary Society survey also found that binge drinking, sexting, and attempted suicide were down last year.
Fewer B.C. teens were binge drinking or sexting last year, but more reported struggles with mental health and sleep problems, according to the annual McCreary Centre Society survey.
For example, those saying they struggle with anxiety or panic attacks increased to 19 per cent in 2018 from eight per cent in 2013, while those who said they had depression jumped to 15 per cent from 10 per cent. “It will be important to look into what is driving these results, and find ways to better support youth who are having these negative experiences,” she said.
Less than half reported going offline after their expected bedtime. Students who did go offline were more likely to have slept longer and woken up feeling rested, the report found.
