If confidence is king, it’s a good thing Nuggets sniper Michael Porter Jr. isn’t lacking.
The Nuggets’ forward has been excellent to start the season, connecting on almost 49% of his nearly eight 3-point attempts per game. Among volume shooters, including Steph Curry, Damian Lillard and Kyrie Irving, Porter’s percentage ranks second in the NBA.“Fifty percent three, to me, is not an unrealistic number,” Porter said after practice on Tuesday. “I’m not saying that that’s easy to do, but I missed a lot of shots that I feel like I should make, and I’m at 50%.
For context, his current rate and volume this season would’ve put him atop the NBA last season. No one who shot at leastPorter reiterated that making one of every two shots didn’t seem outlandish to him. He said as teams have put more of an emphasis on taking away his 3-point shot he’s been working on finding his shot within “random” sequences. He mentioned transition, but that could mean anything unpredictable outside of a typical play call. His 6-foot-10 frame gives him an advantage over almost any defender.
And even more encouraging is that Denver’s coaches have convinced him how dangerous he can be simply by moving.
