For a night, Nuggets guard Jamal Murray reclaimed his fire. His next hurdle is reclaiming his consistency.
It wasn’t because what Murray provided — a season-high 31 points, on an efficient 11-for-17 shooting from the field — wasn’t a welcome sight Monday night. After all, it took him just 16 games to return to the firebrand scorer he was prior to his devastating knee injury.
As if he needed another hurdle, his recent bout with COVID undermined whatever gains he’d made conditioning-wise. Murray only cleared health-and-safety protocols a week ago. When he had COVID, he said he didn’t leave his house. In those aspects, Murray’s self-aware enough to know he’s not all the way back. In other ways, he already is.
