It has been revealed that a small band of private certifiers is reportedly responsible for approving more than 100 NSW buildings with compliance problems

The Sydney Morning Herald reported the six certifiers signed off on 130 buildings with problems, including one building which did not have toilets or taps fitted.

The role of private certifiers in the building industry is expected to come under the scrutiny of NSW building commissioner David Chandler after he was appointed to the role by the state government this week. Mr Chandler's appointment comes in the wake of a series of dramas involving unit buildings across Sydney, including Opal Tower at Sydney Olympic Park and Mascot Towers in the city's east.
