ANNAPOLIS ROYAL, N.S. — Annapolis County residents will continue to elect 11 municipal councillors when they go to the polls later this year. approved the county’s submission to continue to have 11 districts with boundary changes to some districts due to population changes. The next municipal election is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 19.
The 2022 survey included six options for residents to consider. They included seven, nine and 11 polling districts under the warden structure as well as a mayor with six, eight and 10 councillors. “Its role is limited to determining the appropriate number of councillors and polling districts, as well as approving polling district boundaries,” Melanson wrote.Submissions to the board and from some of the people who spoke at the hearing raised issue with council’s response to the 2022 survey and the cost savings that a smaller council would lead to.
“The board acknowledges that while the number of survey respondents is impressive, the results are not entirely clear,” Melanson wrote. “This is primarily because there were three scenarios involving a mayor elected at large and councillors elected by polling district, and three scenarios involving a system with a warden.”
