“It’s amazing to me with the patchwork of laws that we have that someone can legally buy medical cannabis in one state and end up spending time in prison for having the same cannabis in another state,” said Sara Holt, who wrote and directed the episode and has previously covered science, history, and medicine in a variety of productions for PBS.
Last month, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws updated its Clinical Applications For Cannabis & Cannabinoids report for the first time in four years, adding nearlyPaul Armentano, NORML’s deputy director, notes in the update that researchers are now investigating how cannabinoids can modulate diseases like multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease.
“Arguably, these recent discoveries represent far broader and more significant applications for cannabinoid therapeutics than many researchers could have imagined some 30 or even 20 years ago,” Armentano wrote., 2020 was a record year for cannabis research, with more than 3,500 scientific papers published on the subject.Article content
