There were 133,595 people on the “need a family practice” registry as of Feb. 1, according to an update Tuesday. The latest number represents about 13.5 per cent of Nova Scotia’s population, almost double that compared to a year ago. Most people - 3,268 - joined the list because their doctor closed their practice, was in the process of closing it or had retired.The Progressive Conservatives campaigned to victory in the August 2021 election on promises to fix the health-care system. Opposition politicians have said the government is failing to meet those promises, pointing to problems such as the growing primary care waitlist.
