Nova Scotia 800-metre competitor Jane Hergett, left, and 1,500-metre runner Andrew Peverill celebrate their performances at the Canada Games in Niagara, Ont. - Communications Nova ScotiaPort Williams' Jane Hergett was runner-up in her women's 800-metre heat by just four one hundredths of a second on Day 2 of track and field competition at the Canada Games in Niagara, Ont., on Wednesday."I was trying to get top three to advance to the final," she said.
Skeets Greene was just four centimetres off first place in his preliminary long jump group and Dante Isodore's best leap was 6.42. A pair of Ontario competitors had the longest jumps of the day at 6.85.Braden Marshall was sixth in his 110 hurdles heat and didn't advance. "We went out quite slow for the first lap," Peverill said."As we've seen in the semis here, it can get quite dicey coming closer to the end. I didn't want to leave it to chance. I took control of the race and thought 'At least if I go out, I go out on my own terms.' The guys just let me go and I thought 'Alright, it's just like a practice, let's have fun with it.' And it was. It felt great and it ended up going all-around well.
