Restaurateur Bill Pratt thinks a ban on single-use plastics will be palatable for restaurant owners. - Bill SpurrBill Pratt says it comes down to not wanting to put disagreeable items in our landfills, or in our mouths.
“It comes down to cost and usage. A paper straw was seven or eight cents, once more people started to use it, it fell down to three cents, but it’s a penny to use a plastic one,” said Pratt. “Once industry is forced, and that’s all there is available, it’ll drive the price down. I’ve always offered both, so the tree huggers could take the wooden fork and could take a plastic fork. So now I’m trying to source a biodegradable fork for my operations. It’s going to force a lot of people to give up those plastic containers and go into more biodegradable stuff.
