There were eleven deaths, 165 hospitalizations and 3,014 new COVID-19 cases in December 2022 in Nova Scotia. - Tim Krochak / FileEleven people died from COVID-19 in December and there were 165 hospitalizations, the Nova Scotia Health Department reported Monday.The number of deaths declined compared to the previous month but hospitalizations and case numbers were up. There were 24 COVID-19 deaths, 158 hospitalizations and 2,571 new cases in November.

Nova Scotians aged 70+ have been hospitalized at almost 19 times the rate of those 18-49 years of age and their rate of death is 280 times higher compared to those under 50 years of age. Unvaccinated Nova Scotians were hospitalized and died at almost three times the rate as those with three or more doses and the seasonal increase in virus transmission related to winter indoor gatherings.has also raised concerns we’ll see a spike in cases this winter.
