The federally-approved vehicles — a hybrid design with three wheels, automotive seats, foot pedals and a steering wheel — are currently allowed in Nova Scotia but are not eligible for registration, unlike other provinces. The province says the project comes following requests from dealers and related businesses.

The project starts on May 15 and will run until spring 2029. While underway, three-wheeled vehicles must be registered with the province and will be permitted as passenger vehicles. Drivers will need a full Class 5 licence and be required to follow project regulations posted online. Both driver and passenger, who can be as young as nine, must wear a helmet.“Road safety for all users is our priority, and we want to make sure these federally regulated vehicles are suitable for use on our roadways,” said African Nova Scotian Affairs Minister Twila Grosse.

“This project will give us the time we need to properly test, evaluate and review the long-term potential for three-wheeled vehicles on our roads.”It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
