RCMP say the investigation was assisted by the Canada Border Services Agency , Service Nova Scotia — Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel and Tobacco Division and the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team. “On behalf of the Chief and Council of the Eskasoni First Nation, we will not tolerate activities like this that put our community and our youth at risk. We will continue to partner with the Eskasoni RCMP to address these issues when they arise,” said Chief Leroy Denny, Chief of Eskasoni First Nation, in a statement.
In April, an Eskasoni man with the same name and age was charged with two counts of carrying a prohibited weapon , two counts of being in a vehicle knowing there were prohibited weapons, and single counts of possession of a prohibited weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a prohibited weapon with no license, possession of ammunition with no license, possession of pepper spray with no license and possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling.
Police recovered the items after the man entered a vehicle enforcement checkpoint. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers “detected a strong odour of cannabis” and couldOfficers later recovered 3.4 kilograms of cannabis from the vehicle. A search of the man’s apartment also led to the seizure of prohibited weapons, including CEWS and CEW cartridges, as well as “various quantities of dried cannabis and derivatives of cannabis.
