She said the later in the season storms hit the better in terms of the overall crop, but the late-season varieties are just as susceptible and “no storms at all would be preferable.” Growers have been fortunate that the weather in September was not as wet as July, so pickers have been able to get full days in the orchards, she said. The size and colour of the apples have been good, so growers are hopeful for a good crop if they can avoid weather damage.
