Northwestern University announced it will alter its proposal for the new Ryan Field by dropping the number of proposed annual concerts from 10 to six and providing other financial benefits to local schools and the city.

In a news release, Northwestern President Michael Schill said the school also will no longer ask the city for an unlimited amount of 10,000-person events at the field and would limit the number of community-based activities in the stadium and plaza to 60 per year. The Ryan Family, whose contributions are paying for a majority of the proposed rebuild of the nearly 100-year-old stadium, are also now pledging to give an additional $10 million to create an Evanston workforce technology upskilling program to teach underemployed residents skills they can take with them into the job market. Schill also said there are plans to endow the program to benefit future generations of Evanston residents.
