Kevin Milner has a fractured shoulder and extensive bruising after colliding with a bruin in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve.

Kevin Milner is now bedridden with a fractured shoulder blade and extensive bodily bruising, scrapes and swelling after colliding with a bruin in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve.

Milner had made a split-second decision to try and weave around the bear, but the spooked animal did the same. The two collided. By that time, Milner was brave enough to borrow the cyclist’s e-bike — gripping its handles and operating its throttle with his only working hand — to reach the Seymour Valley trailhead. There, cellphone reception allowed hikers to call 911.After paramedics rushed him to Lions Gate Hospital, Milner was kept overnight for tests and observation. He is now recovering at home.
