North Shore Rescue in British Columbia recently rescued two international visitors who became stranded after relying solely on online hiking apps. The first rescue involved a hiker who underestimated the difficulty of an unofficial trail, leading to a harrowing eight-hour hike that ended with him tired, soaked, and hypothermic. The group highlighted the dangers of unverified trail information and the importance of further research before embarking on hikes in unfamiliar terrain.

NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. — The search and rescue organization for Metro Vancouver's North Shore mountains says its teams recently rescued two international visitors who became stranded after relying on online hiking apps without doing further research.

The rescue group says the trail is"essentially full mountaineering conditions" at this time of year, and the man was able to make a 911 call for help after hiking for eight hours that left him"tired, soaked hypothermic" as the sun was setting.
