Carol Burnett’s Norma started Palm Royale in a coma following a pulmonary episode, but she woke up after the first few episodes. As she was still in recovery, Maxine was named the conservator of her estate over Robert, giving her access to the entire Dellacorte fortune.

She believed that Maxine tricked her nephew Douglas into marrying her by claiming she was pregnant, when in reality, she lost the baby just before the wedding. Due to this, Norma planned to leave her estate to a charity when she passed instead of Douglas and Maxine.
