Every year, NORAD tracks Santa's journey around the world on Christmas Eve. The operation uses the same military technology used to defend North American airspace, and a special website features games, activities, and information about Santa's progress.
Twas the night before Christmas and the North American Aerospace Defense Command ( NORAD ) launched its annual Dec. 24 mission, operation real-time Santa tracker. NORAD is a joint security service run by the Canadian Armed Forces and U.S. military, and monitors for threats to North American airspace 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
But every Christmas Eve, NORAD launches a special ops mission “tracking the safe flight and passage of one very special aviator, Santa Claus, as he makes his trip around the globe, delivering presents to children.”NORAD Tracks Santa website features Santa’s North Pole Village, which includes a holiday countdown, games, movie theatre, holiday music, web store, and more. The website is available in nine languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Chinese and Korean. “Using the same military aircraft, radars, and satellites to defend North America, NORAD is well suited to track Santa’s progress as he delivers his cargo across Canada and the United States. It is a special moment for all our crews when they have that rare chance to make contact with Santa,” says Canada’s National Defence Minister Bill Blaire. If you want an ETA on when Santa’s arriving in your neighbourhood, you can call 1-877-HI-NORAD to ask live operators about Santa’s location from 6 a.m. to midnight MST
