But the researchers who use theconference, held every two years at the University of California, Los Angeles. And just like the worm itself, the worm scientist community is just the right size: big enough to make an impact, and small enough that people make connections.

At the 2017 meeting, Beata Mierzwa won Best in Show for her illustration of a feisty worm under a microscope. Mierzwa is a researcher at the University of California, San Diego, but she’s an artist as well, and herBeata Mierzwa created the winning image of the 2017 Worm Art Show at the International C. elegans Meeting in Los Angeles.
