We chat with BloodRelatives writer, director & star Noah Segan (kidblue) about his horror-comedy feature directorial debut, his various influences, and more:
Sometimes, reconnecting with long-lost family can suck, as seen in Blood Relatives. The upcoming horror-comedy revolves around 115-year-old Yiddish vampire Francis who is confronted by Jane, who reveals herself to be his teenage daughter with similar abilities, save for her being able to go out into the daylight, throwing off his lone wolf lifestyle.
I felt like I had to speak to that, I felt like that was something that I was going through that a lot of people go through, kind of how they change their perspective on their lives from who they think they are to who they become. Of course, I felt like I had to do that with the value of the movies that I love, genre films and horror films, and so the idea of a vampire dad was born.
But, on a more micro level, I think when you have a supportive partner, and you, again, are privileged enough to be in the position that I was in, where we have kids who can be taken care of, and my wife and our community, and our people can all help pick up the slack when dad's off shooting a movie.
Was the plan always to set it in Texas, or did that come about when Aaron B. Koontz and Cameron Burns came on board for this one?
