Here’s who can expect the cards, and why the IRS is sending them.
The IRS announced this week that some 4 million people will receive their economic impact payments in the form of aThe cards will be mailed out starting this week; they’ll be sent by MetaBank, not the IRS.
They will be sent to people without bank information on file with the IRS—low-income taxpayers, for example—whose tax returns were processed by two specific IRS service centers: Andover, Massachusetts and Austin, Texas. Though the IRS didn’t specify the reason that those two offices were chosen, or which tax returns each center processed, the Economic Impact FAQ page
that the Andover service center covers Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont, while the Austin service center covers Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas as well as foreign countries, U.S. territories, and military addresses. to submit direct deposit information to the IRS has already passed.
