His late grandmother Yolanda Harrison suggested he pursue a career in nursing. After studying at St. Philip’s College and San Antonio College, he attended Texas A&M International University in Laredo. He graduated in December 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing — just before the start of the pandemic.

The team wore masks with clear face shields and scrub caps. They dressed in full-length yellow gowns. They handled equipment with gloved hands. Once a nurse was in the room, a team member would place items they needed on a table, such as saline, ice water or an intravenous kit, just inside the room.
