Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit says it will be not be laying any charges against an officer after a “less-lethal” weapon was discharged at a man in Belleville.

The SIU says officers were dispatched to a home on the morning of April 30 after a woman reported an ex-boyfriend attending her home, breaching their probation. When police arrived, its alleged that the man didn’t obey commands from officers and told officers to shoot after he was holding the knife to his neck.

One officer fired a taser while the other fired a “less-lethal firearm”, striking the man in his elbow.SIU Director Joseph Martino said the officer who used his less-lethal firearm was lawful in his dealings with the man and would face no criminal charges.
