The town council voted on the budget during its May 6 meeting. Every councillor present voted affirmatively. The tax rates for residential properties will remain unchanged at $1.85 per $100 of assessed property value, and the commercial rate will remain at $4.50 per $100 of assessed property value.Furthermore, residential and commercial road preservation tax rates remain the same: 5.25 cents per $100 of assessment and 4.75 cents per $100 of assessment, respectively.The town's general operating budget is set tojust over $37.7 million -- a 10.

While inflation put pressure on the town, the increase allowed them to avoid raising taxes this year, reads a press release from May 6. The town's capital budget consists of $25 million, plus a contributing from the town for $5.9 million. They noted equipment replacements, facility upgrades and infrastructure enhancements, as well as several notable projects: the Willow Street - McClure's Mills Road roundabout, a new ice plant for the Colchester Legion Stadium, traffic light installations, and the development of the TAAC Grounds, including the baseball field off Argus Drive.
