Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro will be testing the Labrador Island Link today and again early next week. That’s the line which carries the power from Muskrat Falls to Soldier’s Pond.
Hydro cautions that electricity equipment may come offline, or trip, suddenly for many different locations. Trips often occur without any customer impact and usually go unnoticed as Hydro has sufficient backup. However, as we saw a couple of weeks ago, the trips could lead to outages. Hydro assures that they can typically restore service within 30 minutes. Those outages are referred to as “Under Frequency Load Shedding.”
