The new April 22nd indictment is the fourth set of formal charges and the most serious, centering around an accusation of aggravated breach of trust, a Tokyo court said. This is the fourth set if charges against Ghosn since he was first arrested on November 19 last year and as expected, his lawyers immediately requested bail.
According to a spokesperson, Ghosn is still pleading innocence of all charges, something he has done since he was first arrested."Mr. Ghosn will continue to defend himself against these baseless accusations and fully expects to be vindicated," the spokesperson said in a statement. Ghosn's arrest has also focused a harsh light on Japan's judicial system, which many critics claim is"hostage justice" as defendants who deny their charges are often refused bail and detained in harsh conditions while being interrogated daily.
