Nine candidates register for Greater Sudbury city council on Day 1

The list of candidates include incumbents Pauline Fortin (Ward 4), Mike Parent (Ward 5) and Natalie Labbée (Ward 7), plus Shawn Poland, Eddie Astgen, Paul Stopciati, Daniel Larocque, George Lalonde and Bob Johnston

With nine city council candidates registering with the city on Day 1 of the nomination process, two as-yet unannounced candidates have shown up in Ward 11.

These two newcomers to register right out the gate on May 1 include Daniel Larocque and George Lalonde. The seven-candidate balance had already announced their respective candidacies to Sudbury.com, including: The nomination process takes place from May 1 to Aug. 21, after which whatever candidates are still listed cannot withdraw. It’s not until Aug. 22, the day after the nomination period ends, that civic candidates are allowed to begin installing campaign signs, according to a city bylaw.

The same as with federal and provincial elections, municipal campaign signs are only allowed to be installed on private property, with the owner’s permission. The following is the list of candidates Sudbury.com has been made aware of so far this election cycle.
