Kid Rock and Travis Tritt have called for boycotting Anheuser-Busch for partnering with the trans actress. More brands are still supporting trans rights.
The trans activist and actress created quite a buzz this week after she was featured in a Bud Light BUD promotion playing up the beer maker’s March Madness contest. The sponsored Instagram post showing Mulvaney, 26, dressed to the nines and toasting her followers with a six-pack of Bud Light prompted transphobic backlash from many conservative commentators and fans of the beer, including artists Kid Rock and Travis Tritt. “Home for a moment and leaning into cozy workout wear like with @nikewomen’s newest Zenvy leggings and Alate bra!” she shared in a post that was tagged as a paid partnership. She included a hashtag calling herself a Nike partner. “They’re so comfortable and buttery soft, perfect for workouts and everyday wear! #feelyourall #teamnike #nikepartner,” she wrote.
“She’s fit, she’s balanced, she’s athletic, she’s centered, she’s suave, she’s healthy, she’s wealthy, she’s everything,” noted one of the most-liked comments beneath the post. The Nike-Mulvaney partnership also kicked up some more transphobic backlash, however. While Anheuser-Busch BUD did see shares of Budweiser drop during intraday trading on Tuesday, as backlash to the Mulvaney campaign was really foaming over on Twitter, the stock is still up almost 11% so far this year. Nike NKE was down slightly during intraday trading Thursday, but is up just over 2% for the year to date.
