“I’m sharing some secrets guys, get your note pads,” laughs Yemi Alade. As she gets into her skin-care and makeup routine, the Nigerian singer-songwriter confesses she hasn't always had a go-to beauty regime. "You should see my makeup from [the early] days," she says. "I'm not sure what I was thinking. It was like my own personal hurricane was hitting my face." But the afro-pop star, who dropped her albumBeauty Secrets.
Getting ready for the stage, Alade begins by cleansing with a charcoal soap. "I feel like nature is doing something to me that I love," she jokes, proceeding to pat on a natural coconut oil to moisturizer her skin. Next, the singer brushes up her brows and fills in her arches with a dark brown Maybelline pencil.
"Because I am a performance stage artist, and I dance a lot, the most important thing is the primer," she says. "It keeps everything in place.
"I like to highlight the details, like my eyes and my lips; those are the most important things to me," says Alade while adding definition to her lids and blending in her under-eye concealer with a sponge. Then, she applies a set of dramatic false lashes, followed by a precise cat-eye wing. "[This is] one trick that I find very handy," she says while swiping a light brown shadow underneath her bottom lash line.
