The NHL has announced significant increases to the salary cap for the next three seasons. Teams can expect to spend more on player salaries, reflecting the league's financial growth and a return to pre-pandemic spending levels.

The NHL salary cap is expected to see a substantial increase over the next three seasons, according to figures released jointly by the league and the NHL Players' Association on Friday. The cap, which represents the maximum amount a team can spend on its roster, is projected to jump by $7.5 million next season to $95.5 million, with a corresponding increase in the minimum roster spending to $70.6 million.

This marks a significant departure from recent years, where the cap remained relatively stagnant due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. During that period, the cap was frozen at $81.5 million from 2019-20 to 2021-22, followed by smaller increases of $1 million in each of the subsequent two seasons. This year, the cap rose by $4.5 million to $88 million. The projected increases for the coming seasons are substantial, with the cap expected to rise by $8.5 million to $104 million for the 2026-27 season and another $9.6 million to $113.5 million for 2027-28.The projected minimum roster spending is also expected to increase, reaching $76.9 million in 2027-28 and $83.9 million the following season. It's important to note that these figures are subject to change based on minor adjustments that may be made to the numbers for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons. Additionally, they are contingent upon a collective bargaining agreement between the NHL and the NHLPA remaining in effect. The current agreement is set to expire in September 2026
