Steps include consent from local state government officials, a club infection response team, temperature screening and other social distancing guidelines.
Just more than 24 hours before the release of the 2020 NFL regular-season schedule, Commissioner Roger Goodell sent the league’s 32 teams a memo laying out protocols for how to reopen facilities.
The commissioner’s instructions went onto say that teams “should take steps to have these protocols in place by Friday, May 15 in anticipation of being advised when club facilities will formally reopen." Under the first phase of reopening, no players would be allowed to report and no more than 50% of other employees would be permitted on any one day.In the memo, Goodell said, “It is impossible to project what the next few months will bring.”
He cautioned teams against publicly commenting and speculating on contingency plans of the 2020 season. “Uninformed commentary that speculates on how individual clubs or the league will address a range of hypothetical contingencies serves no constructive purpose and instead confuses our fans and business partners, complicates the operations of other clubs, and distracts from the careful planning that is needed right now,” Goodell wrote.
