It seemed like the league office was dead set on making the teams play after Hamlin received CPR and was driven off in an ambulance, until coaches Zac Taylor and Sean McDermott took players to their respective locker rooms. At least four times, ESPN's Joe Buck said that players had been told they had five minutes to warm up before play resumed, which he said was"the word we get from the league and the word we get from down on the field." It seemed clear to anyone watching the ESPN broadcast that it was the coaches, not the league, that eventually drove the decision to stop the game.
